The impact that is Music

Music, one of the things that everyone can enjoy. It can be inappropriate at times or to people of certain ages, but there is truly something out there for everyone. I have tried to protect people from musics influences, but its never been someone my age. I've worked with children for the past three years and have noticed that certain songs meanings go over their heads. One specific time I was watching a few kids at my job and one of the girls, who was about 7 or 8 at the time, started to sing a song. Now the song to a child doesn't sound bad at all, but to someone who knew what it all meant it sounds terrible coming from a child. The song was Ride by Somo. If you've heard the song you know its about sex. The lyrics are talking about taking off heels and pulling hair in parts of it. When i heard her sing this song I immediately told her to stop and explained that it was an inappropriate song that she shouldn't be singing. I wanted to protect her from what she was singin

Banned books and Magazines

The amount of banned and challenged books shocked me. I did recognized a few of the books including Looking for Alaska by John Green, Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L James, and The Holy Bible. I am not a very religious person but the fact that it was on the list did surprise me. I do understand why it could be a problem though. I believe that there should be limits on books for schools but i feel like some of these books shouldn't be banned. For instance i don't believe that the Captain Underpants series should have been banned because I've seen how interested kids are with those books and watch children who hate reading finish the series in a matter of weeks when they dont read at all. In all honesty i own about two books and they were both given to me by family member. The only book out of those two that i've read any of is Looking for Alaska by John Green, but i haven't read enough to know what it really is about. Three magazines that i've read have been Cosmop

Cosmo online or in your hand

Which is better on a screen or in your hand, online or in real life? That’s a question that has been asked since computers and cell phones with internet access have become a household item. Some people believe that a print version of something is the best it can be, and maybe for certain things it is, but not for all things. Cosmopolitan, a widely known magazine and website. Now which is best. The online version, or the print version.   Cosmopolitan, It’s a women’s magazine focuses looks at beauty, style, body love. This magazine/cite caters to style, beauty, and advice for women in their adult years. The magazine is mainly photographs with stories written around them here and there. News and the President

The news is part of our daily lives whether its from friends, family or some form of social media. News is everywhere. For me I mainly hear about the news from my friends, family and facebook. When I hear something that I find interesting or that I simply want to know more about I will look it up online and double check the facts. When I do this I look for cites that end in .org or a cite that I know like the statesman journal. If I cannot find anymore information on it then I will believe the news to be incorrect or fake. I do not subscribe to any online reporting operations for a few reasons. The main reason is that I simply cannot afford to do so. I live on a tight budget and those types of subscriptions aren't a necessity for me. Another reason is that I can find plenty of articles for free if I want to look up any news. To me I don't see the worth because of how many cites don't charge you to view the content of it. If I were to rate myself on a scale of one to five ab

Stay true to who???

I wrote about this in the past, but with a different view. Now after listening to the same ad more than ten different times I’ve changed how I viewed it. For one of my two jobs you are allowed to listen to music and for the most part I listen to Pandora, which plays ads if you don’t pay for it monthly. Do to the fact that I am a broke college student I just live with the ads. The ad I looked at is the For Stay True To You the campaign to keep teenagers away from drugs. This one in particular is about smoking weed. It starts off with a student saying that he feels as if he’s the only one who doesn't smoke, but then that he found out he’s not alone and is surrounded by a few other students. The ad then goes on to tell the facts about high schoolers smoking weed. The ad was done using actors, but none that looked familiar to me. The ad itself takes place in a high school where the actors are sitting on the steps. It last 15 seconds and I’ve only heard it on Pandora. This ad is one

The internet and its ads

Each ad you see is different depending on the product and the social media site that it is located on. On Instagram I looked into my favorite brand of lipsticks social media platform. The company is called Beauty Bakerie Cosmetics Brand. It's Instagram page Shows the entire name of the brand and a few details about it, where they deliver to, hours and where they are located. In their Instagram they post pictures of their products, swatches of their products on different skin tones, models and actual customers who use it. Each picture list who is in the picture, if there's a person in the picture, what the product is and in what shade/color. This allows for the brand to show off their products and for potential customers to see what each product looks like and how it can look on a person. The target audience for this brand is mainly women who use or are interested in using makeup. I believe that it is working because they not only have people who are submitting their photos usin

Social Media and the Internet

Social Media is a huge part of our lives now a days but how much does it help us. This week our class looks at twitter and what it does for us. I've had a twitter since I was in high school and haven't really thought about what it does to offer any sort of help to the community or country at all. For twitter I follow mainly my friends or people who post funny things such as Ryan Reynolds and Christine Teigen. I do follow buzz-feed that post articles about the current things going on in the world as well as the random quizzes a person can take to figure out what kind of dog they would be. I don't use twitter for anything more than entertainment and I rarely look at the news that is on my feed so the best tweet I've seen lately has been a story about the rapper 2 Chainz turning one of his old "trap houses" into and HIV clinic. This stood out to me because not very often to people are in a position of fame take their own belongings to help those in need and to th
